Dr. Maygan Cuevas Oquendo
Dr. Cuevas was born and raised in Puerto Rico. Her passion for veterinary medicine developed from a very young age, caring for cherished companion animals, and wildlife birds throughout her childhood.
Dr. Cuevas is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus where she completed a bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology and a master’s in public health. Before her doctorate journey, Dr. Cuevas worked as a veterinary nurse at a Primate Research Facility for multiple years, caring for rhesus macaques. She graduated as a DVM from Michigan State University, College of Veterinary Medicine, where she actively participated in programs aimed at fostering diversity in veterinary medicine as well as One Health Initiatives. Within the veterinary field, she is particularly interested in internal medicine, neurology, wound care, small mammals, birds, and reptiles, and considers herself an advocate for access to care.
During her time off Dr. Cuevas enjoys the great outdoors. She loves going out for a run, swimming, and just enjoying and connecting with nature. She is an avid birdwatcher and enjoys discovering new bird species during her time outside. Her furry family includes a senior Miniature Schnauzer, a Pitbull, and a Domestic Medium Hair who fills her life with many joys.
